OMG !! LOL !!

Worlds Apart

I got mindfucked today. I got mindfucked in the morning, which is worse.

I walked right into it. I saw it coming, but I progressed.

One of my friends, specifically the one “responsible” for getting me to college and back, is a near-devout Christian. He’s not filled to the brim with the lord and spewing obscure bible quotes at you, but he’s close enough to cause a discomfort within me.

Mostly because I am not very religious. I am a man of the sciences, if you would like to think.

This morning, he says that he has to work on something for his English class. I ask him what it was.

He was making an argument paper denouncing the evolution theory and why the creation theory is credible.

He talked about extrapolation with carbon-dating, saying we could be off by billions of years in the formation of the Earth (I say millions, actually,) but he can’t prove that wrong. Of course there’s going to be some error, it’s impossible to get a truely accurate number. But it’s not like they’re going to be completely off base with it. Scientists are constantly refining this number.

He also, through a creative abuse of coincidences and the Chinese writing system, he shows me all these characters that mean one word, but are made of other characters (like all Asian languages,) that are other words. And these all, of course!, are linked to the stories of the Old Testament.

I took it all as a grain of salt, mostly because this was the only backing he had on it, and it was barely credible due to the sheer amount of coincidences. Also, if you get someone who knows the evolution theory well enough, they can nearly, and eloquently, rip it to shreds and show it as the pseudoscience it is.

I just said “Who cares, what’s past is past,” mostly to just get him to shut up. It was early and I wasn’t ready to think.

I call the creation theory a pseudoscience for a good reason. In fact, technically, the evolution theory can be called it, too. The definition of pseudoscience is “anything that is wrongly called a science, mostly due the difficulty in proving or disproving.” How do we know if we were created specially by something? How do we know if we evolved? We can’t, really. We lack the technology and knowlege to be able to. So, we are allowed to make up these ideas, which make sense, and, unfortunately, some people take these ideas and pass them as truth.

I don’t think either idea is truely correct. I, however, feel the evolution idea makes the most sense. Creationism has a lot of loopholes and a lot of undefined variables. They say “seven days,” but the concept of time is a human creation, So, how long was a “day”? An hour? A year? 10 million years? Who knows? More than likely, “day” is very incorrect, but that’s how it got translated, and translation, especially of old, dead languages, tends to be inaccurate.

Unfortunately, people are leaving science. I was asked by my World Civilizations professor what idea I “believed” in. Upon hearing evolution, he asked me if I ever felt like a minority, to which I responded, “No.”

He told me to start getting used to it. People are going back to religion and creationism.

This makes sense, with the non-argument rebirth of “CREATIONISM OR EVOLUTION? ( IF YOU PICK EVOLUTION YOU’RE A STOOPID DOODY HEAD)” in the government. Along with “AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH BABY KILLER ARE YOU DUMB EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN’T AFFORD YOURSELF,” and “HOMOS ARE SINNERS BAN THEM THEY FREIGHTEN US,” other currently popular non-arguments.

I just don’t get it. I believe in science. It produces reproducable results, with the proper math, and explains nearly everything that commonly happens around us. Well, not everything, but that’s because we don’t have the technology.

I think religion is just a way for us Humans to make ourselves feel “superior” to other animals, which is obsurd. So we did some extraordinary things. Maybe they are a little hard to explain, but I don’t think some “being” just said “Hey, you’re going to create civilizations. You’ll do some pretty cool shit.” and gave us the proper traits to do what we’ve done.

Sorry, but that is just seems a little illogical.
